When we attended the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals (TORCH) fall conference in September, we were excited to offer the opportunity to make a charitable donation of behalf of a Mandry CARES giveaway winner. This was a hybrid event, with both in-person and virtual attendance, so we offered multiple ways to enter the drawing and played a game where participants could win extra entries. Out of all the competition, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer Karry Dronet emerged victorious on behalf of Winkler County Memorial Hospital.

Located in Kermit, Texas, Winkler County Memorial has served citizens of Winkler County for more than 70 years. With an emergency room that serves more than 3,500 patients per year, 19 licensed beds for short-term in-patient services, a CLIA-certified and COLA-accredited laboratory, in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation services, radiology services, a rural health clinic, and swing bed services, the residents of Winkler County and the surrounding areas are well cared for.

When we notified Karry she had won, we were met with lots of excitement and enthusiasm at the opportunity to support a worthy cause. Multiple deserving organizations came to mind, but she and her team decided on the Winkler County Ladies Auxiliary.

The auxiliary raises money to provide $500 scholarships for medical professions to students in the Winkler County area. The Mandry CARES giveaway drawing Karry won at TORCH was for exactly $500, so the auxiliary was a perfect fit. Winkler County Memorial was thrilled to fund a local scholarship in the healthcare field, and we were grateful the chance to make new friends who serve their community so selflessly.
